The psychedelic new collection, Shroom Bloom, is inspired by magic mushrooms
From Prada’s love of daddies to Palace’s collaboration with Elton John, old men are having a moment right now in fashion and the beauty industry is fast on its heels. For his latest campaign for beauty brand Pleasing, Harry Styles has called on one of his musical icons: the 74-year-old Mick Fleetwood. The legendary Fleetwood Mac leader and drummer is the face of Pleasing’s new drop, the psychedelic-inspired “Shroom Bloom”.
“He’s a magical man,” Styles told Vogue. “Mick is someone who brings me – and countless others – great joy. I felt there couldn’t be a better embodiment of Pleasing, or a person who could so naturally capture the wizardry that we love.”
The Shroom Bloom collection, which comes out March 15, is the second micro-drop since Styles launched Pleasing last November. The collection introduces four new shades of the brand’s signature nail polish, including a pale acid-green and clear glitter, inspired by the dappled sunlight in spring. An overnight exfoliating serum, called Acid Drops Lucid Overnight Serum, and a hand cream containing snow mushroom round out the collection. All the products come in a trippy colourful packaging depicting fluffy fish-shaped clouds and sexy frogs.
Photographed at his home in Maui for the campaign, Fleetwood sports a range of colourful manicures as well as new merch which is meant to supply, as Styles put it, “an intoxicating escape-evoking curiosity.” Following the shoot, Fleetwood says he kept the varnish on for two weeks. “Back in the day in London, I used to wear nail polish and all sorts of stuff, and the attitude was, ‘so what?’,” he said. “It didn’t have anything to do with sexuality. It’s not about that. It’s about having fun.”
Styles and Fleetwood first met in 2014, when the drummer took his daughters to a One Direction concert. Styles struck up a friendship with Fleetwood as well as Fleetwood Mac bandmate Stevie Nicks who he has gone on to work with and who once called Styles the “the son she never had”.
Styles launched Pleasing last autumn with a capsule collection of nail polishes, a dual-ended eye and lip serum pen, and a moisturising serum. “I think we have an opportunity to make something really cool, a company that operates in a completely different way,” he told Dazed at the time. “I think the true DNA of Pleasing is about working with talented people who might not necessarily have the light shone on them, and collaborating.”
